THE FISHING NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2021
The themes of 2021 fish supplies have been plentiful catches of large cod and poor haddock supplies throughout the year. At this time of year the scientists responsible for setting fishing quotas by species in Iceland confirm total allowable catches for the coming year. The Barents Sea quota year runs from January to December and will be confirmed in the next few months.

Tony's Talk - Short Sighted - Or What?
Fish and Chips suffer from being encased in plastic carrier bags that encourage the food you have prepared to lose its ‘pan appeal’ and become soggy through sweating. Paper packaging is far superior for the transport of hot food allowing your product to ‘breathe’.
However, in the great scheme of things the current ‘war on plastics’ is totally unwarranted. The horror stories of plastic pollution are not the fault of plastic itself but arise because we are all at fault in its disposal.

In the immortal words of Victor Meldrew - “I don’t believe it...!” However, sadly it is a fact that our Trade is being hit by a tsunami of price rises. We are besieged with shortages, supply delays and price increases on key ingredients and packaging. The difficulties of obtaining shipping containers has been widely publicised but the cost increases less so. A 40ft. container from the Far East cost $2,000 in March 2020 to ship into the UK but now costs up to $14,0000! Sailing times have also been extended by up to 4 weeks causing further delays.
